Prepaid cell phones are a great alternative for some but not all.

Prepaid cell phones are great alternatives to those of us who don't want to have a monthly cell phone bill and aren't going to be using cell phones very often. In the olden days, if you wanted to have an emergency cell phone in the glove box you had to pay monthly for that luxury. These days you can just get a prepaid cell phone with some minutes and fell safe with the security of a prepaid cell phone at your fingertips. This is also a great way to watch your pocket book for people who constantly are going over their allotted cellular phone minutes. With prepaid you get cut off, which is annoying, but not as annoying as paying a quarter a minute for talking overtime on their cellular phone plan.

You will end up paying more per minute in most cases when you prepay your cellular phone plan, but that doesn't mean that it isn't the way to go for you. If you plan on using the phone on a very regular basis however (more than five times a week), you probably won't want to prepay. Check out the great links on prepaid cell phones below. Your pocket book may be thanking you very soon for considering this sometimes money saving alternative to the monthly cell phone bill. We are confident that you will be able to find all of the information you need at the resources below.

Leaked Pics Seem to be Upcoming Nokia N79 Cellphone

Over at BoyGeniusReport there's a bunch of images that seem to be leaked shots of an upcoming Nokia N-series cellphone, the N79. It's faintly similar to the N82, and supposedly has a 2.4 inch QVGA screen, and a 5-megapixel camera beneath with flash. BGR suggests we may learn more on Monday, from Nokia itself. There's also a bunch of confusion over whether the pics are real, but they certainly seem it to me, complete with its strangely pinstriped rear shell. What do you think, guys: Real or no deal? UPDATE: It looks like are pics of a Chinese-made knockoff of the N79. Oh well. [BGR]

Phew: Cute iPhone Factory Girl Didn't Get Fired

After a Foxconn factory worker had adorable snapshots of her discovered in a brand new iPhone and posted all over the internet, many worried that she would be fired—or you know, worse. A Foxconn rep told a Chinese newspaper that "she is definitely not fired," and that the pictures were test photos "accidentally" left on the iPhone. He didn't comment on the number of lashings she received. I'm glad that all worked out, I wouldn't want Adam's conscience burdened by the fact he ruined some girl's life while he's vacationing on the Cape. [Macrumors]

Nokia Pimps 8800 Cellphone With Carbon Arte Version

Nokia's just come up with a new entry in its Arte series of "jazzed up" cellphones with the 8800 Carbon Arte. The old slider phone now has panels of carbon fiber in its front and rear faces, along with titanium and stainless steel. Internally it looks like the phone is pretty much unchanged, though now its storage has been bumped up to 4GB from 1GB. It remains a tri-band GSM phone, though, and Nokia expects it to hit the shops in Europe by the end of the year for around $1,600. [Phone Arena]

Low-Tech Bluetooth Hack Puts Callers to Your Cellphone On Infinite hold

This video demos what an Instructables team call a "quick down and dirty hack" that uses a Bluetooth headset to prank callers to your cellphone with an infinite hold pattern. It involves nothing more sophisticated than a cheapo Bluetooth headset, a few components, a modicum of soldering, and some amusing tunes and message creation. Your callers will then be treated to a "you are in a XX minute queue" message and your choice of irritating music. Now this wouldn't amuse me: It would piss me off, as I've listened to enough hold muzak for real... but your mileage may vary. Check out the Instructable if you want to DIY. [Instructables]

Japan's Ply Concept a Multilayered Fantasy Phone

This phone, inspired by the multiple layers of wooden sandwich in plywood, is of multiple slider design. Inside, and separated by tabs, are a printer, projector, gamepad and sliding downward, a dialpad. It's as cool as it is impossible to build, and so KDDI labs should feel proud for making an imaginary device with so much character. [KDDI via Cscout]

Leaked Shot Of HTC Touch Diamond Shows CDMA Version Ate All the Pies

Over at BoyGeniusReports is this leaked shot of what's allegedly the CDMA version of HTC's fabby Touch Diamond cellphone. And oh boy, oh boy... that's one phone that's not been on a diet: compared to the GSM version sitting on top of it it's one big ugly fat fellow. Apparently it's actually "more comfortable to hold," but you've got to wonder about the weight of the gizmo, and the tightness of your pockets. [Howardforums via BGR]
